For the second year in a row, the last weekend of September has seen the parking lot of the Brown Street Pool in Spring City transformed into a magical wonderland of rides, games, clowns and more.

The Spring City Lions Club is hosting the carnival, which continues tonight, Friday, Sept. 28, 6 to 10 p.m., and Saturday, Sept. 29, 4 to 10 p.m.

Proceeds benefit the Spring City Halloween Parade, to be held this year on Tuesday, Oct. 23. According to carnival organizer Jacqueline Messer, proceeds also benefit the eye health of residents of Spring City, specifically the children. The Lions Club provides eyeglass exams and first pair of eyeglasses for Spring City Elementary School students, based upon referrals from the school.

New to the carnival this year is a motorcycle and truck display by ROC Autobody. The company’s work was on display Thursday night and festival attendees will be able to look over the vehicles on Friday as well.

The Tin Bird Choir Band will perform Friday at 7 p.m., and Saturday night will feature The Creative Steps dance troop and a karate demonstration by Samurai Kids, Spring City. After the two performances, Party Your Way, Royersford, will provide music for a dance party.

Several churches and groups are providing food, including the Spring City Elementary School Home and School Association, bake sale; First United Church of Christ, Spring City, decorate a cookie; Cub Scout Pack 157, juice, soda and water; Bethel United Methodist Church, sausage sandwiches and hot roast beef sandwiches, and Sweet Ashley’s, rock candy, chocolate-covered pretzel rods, fudge and more. Freshly grilled hot dogs and hamburgers are also available.

The Lions have an information table and raffle, and the Spring City Girl Scouts are providing face painting. Additional vending and information tables will be set up Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m.

Also new this year is the presence of several clowns from Clown Alley 8, Fraser, associated with COAI, Clowns of America International. On Thursday evening, clowns Happy Heart and Kris Krunch were delighting youngsters and the young at heart with their balloon creations and light banter.

“The kids love it,” Spring City resident Carla Grosser commented about the carnival. She added that all the children won prizes at the games.

Girl Scout leader DJ Diehl noted that the girls “love coming out here.” She reflected on the nice turnout Thursday night and added that the weather is a lot better this year than last, when it was cold and rainy.

Spring City Home and School Association President Diana Beard remarked, “We were happy that the Lions called us and asked us to do a bake table. A lot of parents participated with donating baked goods.

“There’s a lot of good stuff over there,” Beard added, indicating the group’s table laden with brownies, cupcakes, muffins, homemade granola and more. The HSA is also selling coffee and hot chocolate.

While enjoying this year’s carnival, the Lions are already looking to the future. Messer said the group hopes to do a contest for a T-shirt design for next year’s event.
