By twos and threes and in small family groups they came, gathering along Main Street in Royersford under a bright late-September sky. Anticipation filled the air as the crowd awaited the start of the 2007 Homecoming Parade.
Soon, the distant sound of the band warming up a few blocks away began to be heard over the quiet conversations of neighbors and friends.
Leading the way behind a Royersford police car were Royersford Mayor David Urner and Limerick Township Supervisor Elaine DeWan. Behind the Spring-Ford High School marching band, school district superintendent Dr. Marsha Hurda, serving as parade grand marshal, waved to the crowd.
Also participating in the parade were the Spring-Ford High School chorus, vocal ensemble and men’s and women’s choirs. The Spring-Ford Middle School band performed as well.
In addition to the high school football team and cheerleaders, other sports teams from both the high school and middle school were represented. As they made their way along Main Street, cheers and shouts of “Go, Spring-Ford!” could be heard.
The Homecoming Court was also featured, including the princesses, queen nominees, and the queen and king.
Several of the high school’s student clubs and groups participated, as well as the Spring-Ford Alumni Band. Also joining in the parade were trucks and equipment from Liberty Fire Co., Spring City; Oaks Fire Co.; Humane Fire Co., Royersford; Limerick Fire Co.; Friendship Fire Co. and Ambulance, Royersford, and Linfield Fire Co.
This was the first year the Homecoming Parade route passed directly down Main Street in Royersford.
The Homecoming festivities continued later in the afternoon as the Spring-Ford Rams defeated the Owen J. Roberts Wildcats in the football game at Coach McNelly Stadium.
