The Spring City Public Library invites children from birth through eighth grade to join the summer reading club and “Be Creative at Your Library.”

Registration began June 1, and the reading club runs from June 15 to Aug. 8. Children are encouraged to read 15 minutes each day. Youngsters earn one book buck for each hour of reading. The prize shop opens Aug. 10.

Programs for all ages will be offered throughout the summer.

The library will kick off the summer program by inviting the community to “Get the ‘Scoop’ at Your Library” on Tuesday, June 16, 5 to 7 p.m.

The library will dedicate the new sign, share plans for an August renovation project, issue library cards and celebrate the start of the summer reading program.

Free snow cones will be offered.

The library offers a story time for infants and toddlers age 0 to 2 years on Mondays from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Bibs ‘n Books features books, finger plays, songs and lap rides. Caregivers must attend with the children.

Wee Read, for toddlers and tykes ages 3 to 5 years, is offered on Wednesdays, 10 to 10:30 a.m. Books, finger plays, songs and games will be shared. Caregivers must accompany their children.

On Thursdays, Creative Crafts for ages 5 to 7 years will be offered at 10 a.m., and library director Suzanne Macaulay will lead a storytime at the pavilion at the Spring City Pool at 2 p.m.

Tuesday activities for ages 7 and up include Feathered Friends, where children can paint a birdhouse, on June 23; Earth Friendly Crafts, June 30; Tie Dye, where children can give their plain white T-shirt a colorful design, July 21, and Let’s Paint, featuring three different crafts, July 28. Activities begin at 1 p.m.

Ages 7 and up are invited to Book Bingo on Wednesday, July 8. All ages are invited to a Star Wars trivia event with guest librarian John Hendrix from Bayard Taylor on Wednesday, July 29. Both activities begin at 1 p.m.

The summer reading club will conclude with a performance by Flow Circus at the Spring City Pool on Thursday, Aug. 13, at 2 p.m. All ages are invited as Paul Miller turns the world around him into a playground filled with toys, magic and wonder.

The library, at 245 Broad St., is open Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Summer Saturday hours, from June 27 to Aug. 29, will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The library will be closed on Saturday, July 4.
