As you step through the front doors, the smells of delicious, homestyle cooking waft through the room and greet you to Limerick Diner, a staple on the Spring-Ford landscape.
That’s right, forget the diner’s reputation for a haze of cigarette smoke. The Limerick Diner has gone smokefree, and dining there is certainly a pleasure.
Arriving at the Diner at 6 p.m., our family of three was seated almost immediately in a spacious booth, where Benjamin enjoyed looking out the large window at the traffic going by.
The children’s menu had a nice variety, from peanut butter and jelly sandwich to fried shrimp or roast beef. Benjamin, who is very reluctant to try anything new, quickly chose the grilled cheese sandwich and french fries. The sandwich was prepared simply, just like Mom would make, and was just right for a little guy.
I chose the coconut shrimp with orange marmalade, and it was definitely delicious. The marmalade added just the right amount of sweetness to the entrée. I also had the lettuce with hot bacon dressing and french-fried sweet potatoes. The potatoes were a tasty -- and I hope, nutritious -- alternative to regular fries.
Ken’s chopped sirloin steak with mushrooms and brown gravy was satisfying and flavorsome.
Service was prompt and courteous, and we had an enjoyable, affordable evening out.
With over 125 menu items to choose from, there’s something to suit every taste and every wallet.
Limerick Diner, at the intersection of Ridge and Swamp pikes, is open seven days a week, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
