The Spring-Ford High School Drama club will stage the Broadway favorite “42nd Street” this weekend. The spring production begins with a special preview performance for senior citizens on Thursday, March 27, 4 p.m., and regular performances on Friday and Saturday, March 28 and 29, 7:30 p.m.
“42nd Street” is the story of Peggy Sawyer, an aspiring chorus girl. It celebrates the hard work, talent and love stories of those involved in the theater business.
About 40 students make up the cast and 30 students are involved with the show’s crew and orchestra. Director Nicole Gerenyi noted that about three-quarters of the cast had to learn how to tap dance for the production.
According to Gerenyi, the show has a high degree of student involvement, with many students giving up part of their spring break to participate in rehearsals. Students will also perform a daytime show for third-graders from throughout the district.
The musical includes song favorites such as “We’re in the Money” and “Lullaby of Broadway.” “42nd Street” is based on the novel by Bradford Ropes and features music by Harry Warren and lyrics by Al Dubin.
Performances will be held in the Spring-Ford High School auditorium, 350 S. Lewis Road, Royersford, entering at Door #9. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for senior citizens and students. Tickets can be purchased at the door.

Those interested in seeing the Friday performance of “42nd Street” might want to stop by the high school early and dine at the seventh annual Spaghetti Fest sponsored by the Spring-Ford Chamber of Commerce.
The all-you-can-eat spaghetti supper and silent auction will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on March 28 at the high school. The event benefits the chamber’s Spring-Ford Scholarship Fund.
Those who attend will have the chance to bid on items such as a free carpet installation package, a golf package, a gift basket from Sweet Ashley’s and an autographed Eagles football.
Tickets for Spaghetti Fest are $7 for adults and $5 for senior citizen and students. Children under 5 eat free. Take-out is available.
