Spring-Ford Area School District elementary schools brought home an array of ribbons for their performances in the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit Reading Olympics competition held earlier this spring at Pottstown Middle School.
The Olympics are meant to increase students’ reading for enjoyment and enhance reading skills. Students collaborate with teammates to read 40 to 50 books from a list that has been compiled by a committee of librarians, reading specialists and classroom teachers.
With the collective knowledge they share about these books, teams then answer questions about the books during the competition.
Teams are awarded blue ribbons for scoring 50 points and above, red ribbons for scoring 40 to 49 points, green ribbons for 30 to 39 points and yellow ribbons for 29 points and below.
Here is a look at how Spring-Ford student teams fared.
Royersford Elementary School sent one team and won a blue ribbon.
Brooke Elementary School sent five teams and brought home two blue and three red ribbons.
Evans Elementary School sent two teams and brought home two red ribbons.
Limerick Elementary School sent three teams and won two red and one blue ribbon.
Spring City Elementary School sent one team and won a yellow ribbon.
Spring-Ford Intermediate School sent three fifth-grade and three sixth-grade teams and all earned red ribbons.
