Oaks Elementary School third-graders raised more than $300 for the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation this fall by selling lemonade to their classmates during lunch periods.

The students, who are in teacher Jennifer Murray’s class, gave up their recess time to operate a lemonade stand in their cafeteria for one month. They collected $310.18 for the foundation, which supports research and care for children with cancer.

Murray said the activity was a perfect opportunity for students to learn the message behind Oaks Elementary’s theme for this year.

“Since our school’s theme is ‘Pay It Forward,’ I felt this was an excellent way to go above and beyond to help others,” she said.
