Spring-Ford School District has its own cable television channel.
Thanks to a collaboration involving Royersford and Spring City boroughs, Limerick and Upper Providence townships and the Spring-Ford School District, district residents are now able to tune into Ram Country Television (RCTV). The channel went on the air on June 3.
RCTV is broadcast on Comcast Channel 851, with all programming being provided through the school district. Viewers who tune into the new channel are able to watch live broadcasts of Spring-Ford School Board meetings and district athletic events, as well as view important messages about district events and initiatives.
Along with messages, meetings and athletic events, five district programs will be aired.
“Ram Country” is hosted by Royersford Elementary School Principal David Willauer. This show focuses on news and events from classrooms throughout the district.
“Supe’s On” features Superintendent Dr. Marsha Hurda and television technology specialist Steven Bonetz. The show is a look at programs and initiatives that have an impact on the district’s curriculum, facilities and technology.
“Crunch Zone” is hosted by physical education teachers Lucinda Iezzi and Chad Neiswender. The show focuses on health and wellness. Each show has three segments that include an interview with a staff member about what he or she does to stay fit, a presentation of a healthy recipe and how to make it and an exercise demonstration.
“Behind the Scenes” is hosted by Teresa Carboy, assistant principal for fifth, sixth and seventh grades. The program provides a look at the inner workings of the school district and the staff members who keep Spring-Ford operating efficiently.
“Community Connections” is hosted by Upper Providence Elementary School Principal Dr. Melissa Patschke. The program highlights how the school district and community members work together.
A programming schedule will be developed in coming months. Between broadcasts, a messaging system will deliver announcements about important events, programs and other issues relevant to the Spring-Ford School District community.
“Being able to offer our community a cable channel through which they can learn about school district initiatives and events has been a goal of this school district for some time, so we are pleased to see that it is finally becoming a reality,” Hurda said.
“We are thankful that the municipalities we serve supported our efforts to make this channel available to residents. Through Ram Country TV, we will have one more method of communicating with the public, and we look forward to developing additional programming to give the public a greater understanding of what happens inside our classrooms.
RCTV is available to Comcast customers who subscribe to high-definition services. Thos who don’t already subscribe to high-definition channels can call 1-800-COMCAST and request the “digital starter” $1 offer. Customers can upgrade their service to digital starter for $1 more per month than they currently pay for standard cable.
