Spring is approaching and I have been researching downtown community contests. One that was neat was a community contest vote on the business with the best flower display. Several (larger cities) have done this. But one also gave specifics about signup, judging and prizes. Businesses reportedly loved the contest as the winning business was featured in the area paper. I helped motivate businesses as well as REALLY beautified the down town. What do you think? Any ideas? I will gladly work with anyone interested to put together one like this in SC. Julie (I haven't spoken to businesses about it yet, but I have a feeling they would go for it- at least some- which is something that also can
grow

Hi! Actually ,that is a really good idea and would be lovely to see the continuity. Since this is Spring-Ford Online- Yes, I think that would work out well. Also, it would add to the excitement. I have to dig out the info. again, but the one site that gave specifics also divided the contest (best hanging basket, best overall....) For us, though, if we would do it- Keep it simple is prob the rule for the first time and then it too can grow!!

Hi- I am following up about a possible flower/store front contest..... Spring-Ford Online could possibly link up with another community group or groups (SCRF or maybe Lions, Rotary, Scouts Chamber, Parks and Rec.....).... to do the man power work of sending out information. I think it would make a huge difference in the street appearance (if the businesses get involved with this) and it would make a great story for News papers (btw- I agree SC's facelift is great)! We could get some area greenhouses, or florists- or otherwise specified/qualified judges to decide on winners. The groups can help find other prizes- but if we can arrange for a paper to agree on doing a story on the winning business, as well as a story on SFO- plus maybe $ it could be a nice thing. But- we will need to start planning now. PS Many businesses and community places could serve as application pick up spots (again-exposure for SFO as well. We could if there is enough ambition interest- extend the contest to include residential (back to the judges- how about the women's garden groups in the area? Julie-
Think Spring
